Brinsley Forde MBE. Now a solo artist, after a successful career as the founding member, lead vocals and songwriter of Aswad, has recently released his long awaited debut album Urban Jungle with three further works in progress. He is so lauded as a performer that both The Wailers band and I-Threes have seen him step in for them in the place of the legendary Bob Marley for recent live shows.
As a child actor he starred as Spring in the Twenty Century Fox Tv Series Here Comes The Double Deckers. Hee appeared as Wesley in the popular British sitcom Please Sir starring in the Film & Tv productions. Brinsley appeared in James Bond’s Diamonds Are For Ever other appearances HTV’s Georgian House, To Sir With Love (TV Pilot) Goodbye Charlie Brite to name a few His starring role in the now cult movie Babylon just released in the USA has grabbed the attention of the American public.
As a network TV host, Brinsley presented VH1 Soul Vibrations, BBC's Ebony & Ebony on the road, BBC 6 Music radio shows Lively Up Yourself and Dub Bashment. Brinsley could also be heard presenting the acclaimed radio documentaries Behind The Smile the real life of Bob Marley & Island Rock eight-part series to mark the 40th anniversary of Jamaica's Independence.
Double time Grammy nominee lead singer of Aswad, Brinsley scored a British number one chart hit with Don't Turn Around. Followed by another top 20 chart hit, Give A Little Love. The band continued to feature in top 20 in the British charts with the Distant Thunder album and tracks "On and On" and "Next to You"& Shine
2018 had Brinsley playing some of the UK and Europe’s largest festivals and doing a 15 date South American tour which led him through Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Chile, Panama and Mexico. Hitting number 1 with Nonpaladece in Argentina on two superb tracks, which Brinsley wrote, has him firmly in the hearts of the South American reggae scene. He is due to return early 2019.
The same year also saw Brinsley form a UK Reggae Super Group, 3 The Hard Way, with David Hinds (Steel Pulse) and Dennis Bovell (Matumbi). After playing Royal Albert Hall in support of Teenage Cancer Trust they have been going from strength to strength and are currently working on new music to be released early autumn 2019. Brinsley, himself, is also working on new music due for release spring 2019 with a revisit to Urban Jungle Tuff Gong Sessions with the first release slated to be ‘Chillin’ ft David Hinds.
His energy, stage presence, voice and passion has never wained and continues to delight crowds across the globe. A mixture of Aswad classics and new material with his all-star band has not disappointed even the largest crowds such as a South American Tour 2017/8 of 6 countries and 60,000 fans, Boomtown, Great North Ska Fest, Dubwood. Also performing at Royal Albert Hall, Lambeth County in front of 75000 fans, Roundhouse theatre alongside 3 The Hard Way. A genuine gentleman and a true professional.
2019 promises to be a big year for Brinsley. Working on two new albums with Dutch producer Jah Solid Rock, they have compiled a revisit of Urban Jungle at Tuff Gong Studios. The first release ‘Chillin’ ft David Hinds of the legendary band Steel Pulse is due out in March 2019 and the album shortly to follow.
