Elton John’s record breaking Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour reached its conclusion on Saturday with an emotionally charged show at Sweden’s Tele2 Arena. This landmark 330th - and final - date marked the end of a truly historic, groundbreaking tour which sees Elton say goodbye to touring after 50 years on the road. The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour kicked off on 10th September 2018 in North America and has subsequentlly seen Elton play to over 6.25 million fans across the UK, Europe, North America and Australasia.

After leaving the stage in Stockholm, Elton said “When we set off on my final tour in 2018, I couldn’t have foreseen in my wildest dreams the twists and turns and the highs and lows this tour - and the whole world - would have experienced in the next 5 years. And every step of the way, my fans have been there. They have stuck with me, they have supported me, they have been patient and they have kept turning out for every single last show. Tonight has been magical. I’m trying to process it and I don’t think it will sink in for a while yet that I’m finally finished touring. I can’t tell you how much I’m going to miss the fans and how much their support has humbled me - it will stay with me forever”.

Taking the audience on a magical journey through his career for the final time, tonight’s show featured some of Elton’s most beloved songs from his legendary catalogue including “Bennie and the Jets,” “Rocket Man,” “Tiny Dancer,” “Philadelphia Freedom” climaxing in a three song encore of “Cold Heart”, “Your Song” and a spine tingling finale of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”.

It’s rock history in the making, but it also doesn’t feel like the end: straddling eras and with pop standards to bear, Elton John feels eternal.

During the set, a live video link-up with Coldplay, who were playing live in Gothenburg at the same time, delivered a message of thanks to a clearly deeply moved Elton on behalf of the many artists and musicians he’s supported and platformed during his touring career. Chris Martin said: “Elton, from all of us here (in Gothenburg), from all the bands and artists you’ve helped and inspired, we love you so much. We are so grateful for everything you’ve done for the AIDS Foundation, anytime you’ve been kind to anybody. For Everything you’ve done for LGBTQ. Everything you’ve done for fashion and eyewear. Everything you’ve done for sexiness, and love and dressing gowns! Everything you’ve done for music, everything Bernie has done for lyrics, everything your band has done over the thousands of shows you’ve done. We love you so much, we’re going to miss you so much”

Elton also gave an emotional send off to his incredible band who have joined him on stage throughout the tour - and the previous 50 years - including Davey Johnstone, Musical Director, Guitarist and backup vocals, Nigel Olsson on the drums, Ray Cooper on percussion, John Mahon on percussion, Kim Bullard on keyboards and Matt Bissonette on the bass.

Having toured relentlessly since 1970, playing almost 4,600 shows in 80 countries in the ensuing half a century, Elton made the decision in 2017 that the time was right to come off the road so he could fully embrace the next important chapter of his life and dedicate more time to his family. The ensuing Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour has subsequently broken records, pushing boundaries and shattering expectations in a five year period of celebratory activity that has solidified Elton’s status across the generations in the very highest echelons of popular culture. Each leg of the tour has been greeted with an avalanche of critical and commercial success. Highlights include 8 nights at Madison Square Garden, 10 nights at London’s O2 Arena, headlining a sold out BST in London’s Hyde Park, 2 nights at Watford Football Club’s Vicarage Road (July 2022) and a mammoth 46 dates across Australia. The U.S. leg of the tour concluded with 3 sell out shows at Dodger Stadium in November 2022. The concert was live streamed on Disney + in every single territory the channel broadcasts in, a global first. And, of course, there was last month’s historic Glastonbury Festival headline slot. The Sunday night Pyramid Stage closer was widely heralded as one of the greatest performances in the festival's rich history, attracting one of the largest crowds ever witnessed at the festival. It also received the biggest ever televised audience for a Glastonbury set, reaching 7.6m overnight on BBC1.

Perhaps the greatest showman of our times

The success of the live tour has been underpinned by release of the commercial and critical hit film ‘Rocketman’ and global bestselling autobiography, ‘ME’ in a sustained 5 year period of unrivalled cultural celebration. Cold Heart with Dua Lipa (PNAU remix) saw Elton top the UK single chart, becoming the first artist to score a top 10 solo hit single in 6 consecutive decades in the process. Diamonds, the Ultimate Greatest Hits Collection continues to be a permanent fixture in the charts as new audiences discover Elton’s unrivalled songbook. Last week it reached a new peak position of #2 in the UK albums charts an incredible 5 years after its release, achieving 4 times platinum status in the process.

In Stockholm on Saturday, the sun finally set on Elton’s illustrious touring career as he bows out at the very top of his powers. Fans around the world can now only wait and speculate on what will follow from a true icon who has consistently challenged the norm, pushed boundaries and shaped popular culture like few others.

CELINE DION ANNOUNCES CANCELLATION OF REMAINING COURAGE WORLD TOUR DATES FOR 2023 AND 2024

With a sense of tremendous disappointment, Celine Dion’s Courage World Tour today announced the cancellation of all remaining dates currently on sale for 2023 and 2024. This includes all dates in the UK scheduled for 2024.

As the world has emerged from the pandemic, Celine has continued to be treated for a diagnosed medical condition that prevents her from performing. Celine is working hard on her recovery, but at this time is unable to successfully prepare for and perform the remainder of the tour, which was scheduled to run from August 26, 2023 in Amsterdam through October 4, 2023 in Helsinki; then continuing from March 6, 2024 in Prague through April 22, 2024 in London.

We do have every hope that someday soon, Celine will be able to come to all of these cities in Europe to perform for her amazing fans, but that time simply is not now.

I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again. I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100%. It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again. I want you all to know, I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!
— Celine Dion

Celine had completed the first 52 dates of the Courage World Tour in North America before the pandemic emerged and paused the tour in March 2020.  In early 2021, when the entertainment industry was still working under tight COVID restrictions, Celine filmed her first motion picture, Love Again, co- starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sam Heughan. Since then, Celine has revealed that she has been diagnosed with a rare condition called Stiff Person’s Syndrome, which causes severe and persistent muscle spasms, and which has prevented her from performing. Celine’s medical team continues to evaluate and treat the condition.

Tickets purchased for the forty-two cancelled dates will be refunded via the original point of sale.

For further ticket inquiries or options, ticketholders should reach out to their original point of purchase.

The Courage World Tour shows in the UK and Ireland now being cancelled are:

Glasgow - OVO Hydro - Apr 13-14, 2024

A TRIBUTE TO TINA TURNER

We worked with Tina from 1978 and were privileged to play a part in her amazing journey during the following decades. She was the ultimate professional with an incredible work ethic - fire, energy and a million dollar smile.

She was utterly unique – working tirelessly to achieve so much respect and so many triumphant successes. Her strength and spirit on stage was only matched by her personal elegance, dignity and grace away from the spotlight.

We treasured every mile we travelled with her, and her constant friendship.

She was an absolutely huge and cherished part of our lives. We loved her and will miss her more than words can say.

Barrie & Jenny Marshall

And all the Marshall Arts family who shared in the joy she brought to us.

They promise to be an electric experience from a jazz icon who shows no signs of slowing down.

Herbie Hancock's previous Barbican show, as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival Summer Series last year, was met with critical acclaim with the Evening Standard proclaiming “A fine ensemble supported the veteran jazz man, but he was the undisputed star” whilst the Financial Times described it as “A gripping, crowd-raising gig”.

Photo: Amy Sussman/Getty Images for dcp

Just over a week ago Lionel Richie was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame and last night (Sunday 20 November) he picked up the Icon Award at the American Music Awards.

Lionel has picked up no fewer than 17 AMA’s, and has become the only artist to take to the stage at this event in every decade since the show began.

Accepting the award last night Lionel offered advice to the young superstars urging them to use their talents to Inspire.

God has given you a light. That light is special. That light is only given to a few. When you hear the word ‘hip,’ it means today. When you hear the word ‘inspiring,’ it means forever. If you get a chance to have that light on you, understand what God has in store
— Lionel Richie

Watch Lionel’s full acceptance speech below.

Closing out the show, Stevie Wonder and Charlie Puth played a medley of Lionels classic hits and were joined by a star studded cast including Ari Lennox, Melissa Etheridge, Jimmie Allen, Muni Long, Smokey Robinson to perform We Are The World in honour of Lionel Richie.

Lionel Richie joined Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Dolly Parton and Carly Simon who were all inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame this year.

Prior to accepting his Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame induction, Lionel performed his greatest hits and was joined by Foo Fighters Dave Grohl for ‘Easy’.

Speaking to Rolling Stone earlier this year, Richie compared being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to reaching heaven, saying: “This is the holy grail of what we do in the business.”

DODGER STADIUM: ELTON JOHN PERFORMS FINAL EVER TOUR DATE IN NORTH AMERICA

Photo: Ben Gibson for Rocket Entertainment

As Elton left the stage in Los Angeles last night (Sunday 20 November) after his 271st date on the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, it marked his last ever tour date in North America.

Over 50,000 fans packed Dodger Stadium for the last of three nights at this iconic venue including A List fans Bernie Taupin, Taron Egerton, Neil Patrick Harris, Donatella Versace and JoJo Siwa.

It was in this building in 1975 where Elton took to the stage for two legendary concerts, wearing the now iconic Bob Mackie designed silver and blue beaded Dodgers Uniform.

His two hour long set began with ‘Bennie and the Jets’ before Elton blazed his way through a further 23 songs including fan favourites ‘Rocketman’, ‘The Bitch is Back’ and ‘Crocodile Rock’ and included fireworks, confetti and Elton recreating his bejewelled uniform, but this time in the form of a robe created by Gucci!

“Tonight is a very special night, we are creating history tonight,” John said, “And I’m so glad to see you at Dodger Stadium.”

For only the second time on the tour Elton invited very special guests to join him on stage during the course of the concert to perform with him. Brandi Carlisle performed “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me”, which Elton dedicated to the late members of his band. Kiki Dee performed “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”, which she duetted with Elton John back in 1976. And Dua Lipa graced the stage to perform their recent global hit “Cold Heart”.

Elton Johns Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour continues in January heading to Australia and New Zealand before returning to the UK and Europe in March. The tour concludes in Sweden on Saturday 8 July 2023. Click below for tour dates and ticket details.
